New Year’s Resolutions for Business Travels

Though most business travelers have their routine memorized like countless airport layouts they constantly fly into, Empire State would like to make the following suggestions that even the savviest veteran can use. But unlike other New Year’s Resolutions, you will find these easy to keep.

1) Protect Yourself
Besides personal safety, you also should consider the dangers to your personal equipment. Make sure to back up all your important data from your laptop and cell phone before hitting the road. Imagine if your computer is stolen along with your award-winning presentation, and the only copy is now lost to the world! A good tip here is to have all your essential business files on either a flash drive or CD for those worst-case scenarios.

2) Stay Connected
You never know when a last minute detail can make or break a deal. It’s always a good idea to book hotels with in-room Internet access, and at the very least a 24-hour business center. You might also consider a cell data network service that has an option for hotspot technology. This is the best way to insure that the home office can find you, and you always get the memo.

3) Smell the Roses
While business is the purpose of your trip, you should get out and see more of the cities you are visiting. While in New York, take some time to see a Broadway show or have dinner in Little Italy. A trip to Times Square will make you feel like you saw New York, and is healthier for you than sitting in your hotel room watching the television.

4) Invest in Yourself
As any seasoned business traveler will tell you, a good carry-on bag is worth its weight in gold. If you have had your eye on a gadget or other posh traveling accessory, treat yourself. For the amount of time you spend on the road, a little creature comfort will go a long way into making the trips more enjoyable. There is probably an item in the SkyMall catalogue you have been debating for years, so get it.
